History
Maybe some of you think Jakarta is different from the present. If it is already crowded, Jakarta was just a small town in Ciliwung Estuary in the 16th century or about 500 years ago. Initially, this Bandar is a Hindu trading center of the kingdom of Tarumanegara. Moreover, the evidence from the Tugu Inscription states that the Bandar area is made into a residential area for citizens who come from the kingdom of Tarumanegara. One thing that matter, before that the name Jakarta, Banten, and West Java is still so one. Or simply Java is still one. We don't know where it is West Java, Central Java, East Java, Banten, Jakarta and Yogyakarta. Still just a kingdom. The greatest kingdom at that time was the Kingdom of Tarumanegara that had been described earlier. Back to the topic, this kingdom turned this port into a big trade, so no doubt Indonesia is rich in trading history with other countries. However, gradually the kingdom began to weaken in the control of trade, so the Sunda Kingdom took over to control the trade. Kingdom of Sunda also named the Port previously mastered by this Tarumanegara with Sunda Kelapa Harbor because it is located in the town of Kalapa. In the 14th century, this port is the most important asset for the Sunda Kingdom in the economy especially in terms of trade.
The news of this trade was up to the European region. The Portuguese were also interested in invading the area into a colony center because of its strategic location, especially in the economy. Thus, in the 16th century, the Portuguese came and bore Sunda Kelapa at that time. The Portuguese made the Luso Sundanese Padrao treaty which contained political and economic agreements. This may be more obviously beneficial Portuguese itself, because all assets owned by Sunda Kelapa is controlled by the Portuguese. The news of the Portuguese reached the Kingdom of Demak, and under the leadership of Fatahillah, they attacked the Portuguese-controlled Sunda Kelapa at that time and drove it from the land of Sunda Kelapa. Their efforts succeeded, and then on June 22, 1527, Fatahillah himself transformed Sunda Kelapa into Jayakarta which in its name implies their glory after successfully expelling the Portuguese. This date is remembered by every community to commemorate the anniversary of Jakarta. Lapse of 69 years, the end of the Dutch 16th Century led by Cornelius De Houtman came to Batam (Banten now) and made this Jayakarta became the center of trade as well as the center of Dutch government at that time. They made this Jayakarta the center of spice exchange with the Portuguese, because the Portuguese managed to harness the eastern region rich in spices. Interested in a strategically strategic city in all respects, then on May 30, 1619, Jan Pieterzoon Coen led the Dutch in Jayakarta. By mobilizing everything, Jayakarta succeeded in falling into Dutch power and changing its name to Batavia. Batavia was eventually renovated into an elegant city where they built canal channels to prevent flooding, create parks, and build a government center called VOC led by Joen Pieterzoon Coen. The VOC itself had long been established, but their efforts to establish the center of government always failed and eventually they determined that Batavia deserved to be the seat of government at that time. The task of the VOC is to monopolize, that is, those who govern trade to cooperate with other countries to advance their economy.
Gradually, the VOCs suffered from internal problems. The case of corruption in the VOC's internal, made the VOC decide bankrupt in 1800 and repeal all the VOC governance system that is still influenced VOC-style work system and return all their rights to the Dutch kingdom. However, the name of the city of Batavia is still strategic, still maintained as the center of the economy because the Dutch at that time still controlled Indonesia. In 1942, Japan came to Batavia and replaced Batavia into Jakarta Toko Betsu Shi. In addition, because the Dutch lost the war from Japan that same year, then Japan filled their government activities in Jakarta Toko Betsu Shi. Japanese occupation did not last long. Only about 3 years after Japan declared them defeated by allies, in 1945, the first President of the Republic of Indonesia Ir. Sukarno also proclaimed the independence of Indonesia and again changed the name again to Jayakarta because of the influence of colonialism by the Dutch and Japanese is no longer there. In this year also, Jayakarta turned into the national city of Jakarta. In 1966 until now, Jakarta has also become a large and magnificent metropolis populated by famous people all over Indonesia, starting with artists, businessmen, government, investors, and various people trying to find their fortune in this city where this city almost solid with transmigrant from all region.
